Where The Heart Is Homeschooling is...
about being a part of teaching and experiencing learning considering the whole child.
As parents are a child's first teacher, it is important to build relationships with parents and families to work as a teaching partnership. A child's community and family contexts are inextricably linked to their learning. As a teacher, and not the child's parent, it is equally valuable to place caring at the heart and soul of teaching and learning.
Where The Heart Is Homeschooling believes in concrete, hands-on, abstract, relevant, meaningful and real-life learning in and around the child's home and life. The role of creativity in teaching and learning can not be understated. Every child has different strengths, or one of many 'multiple intelligences', that assist them with learning. Teaching and learning should be honed, not hurried; teaching the child at their intellectual, social and personal level, not their age.
With a strong focus on Mathematics and English subjects and learning, lessons and unit plans available to families blend these core subjects with what is important to you as a family; what you want your child to learn. In this way, learning plans are developed with you, the family, in mind. This is your child's education, with you at the heart of every decision. It is my privilege to support you.

Wherever you are around this great country, or around the world, home is the place where family is. Home looks like many things, many places, many spaces. Within every one of those homes, learning has space to grow. Home is where we come together as a family; we always love and we always learn.

Wherever home is, that is the place that quality, integral and natural learning occur. Schoolwork is woven into everyday life - measuring in the kitchen, exploring in the garden, sharing stories, doing chores and errands. 'School' is at the table, in the garden, or sitting cozy on the lounge.

Wherever the heart is, learning naturally follows - rooted in love, guided by wonder, and strengthened by connection. When a child's heart is nurtured, their mind can open and learning flourishes. Parents and children learn alongside each other, sharing stories, discoveries and laughter. Curiosity leads the way, and family life becomes the heart of education.

Some are like wheelbarrows - no good unless pushed
Some are like trailers - they have to be pulled
Some are like kites - if you do not keep them on a string they fly away
Some are like footballs - you can't tell which way they are going to bounce
Some are like blisters - they always show up when the work is done
Some are like a gold watch - open faced, pure gold, quietly busy and full of good works
Some are like a big smile - they get their teeth into it
Some are like a computer - a largely untapped resource
Some are like a calculator - they figure things out easily
Some are like a big spade - don't mind digging in to help
Some are like a balloon - full of wind and explode on being pinned down
